Our Values
Ubuntu Portal is built on the spirit of Ubuntu — 'I am because we are'. Our platform exists to create a fair, inclusive, and prosperous trading environment for African businesses and their global partners. Every interaction on our platform should reflect:
- Integrity — honest representations, transparent pricing, and fair dealing
- Respect — treating all users with dignity regardless of company size, location, or background
- Accountability — taking ownership of your commitments as a buyer or supplier
- Inclusion — welcoming businesses from all industries, countries, and sizes
- Excellence — striving for the highest standards in products, service, and communication
Expected Behaviour
All users — buyers, suppliers, and platform partners — are expected to:
- Communicate professionally and respectfully in all platform interactions
- Honour confirmed orders, agreed delivery timelines, and payment commitments
- Provide honest, accurate product listings, company profiles, and customer reviews
- Disclose any conflicts of interest when they arise
- Protect confidential business information shared during trade negotiations
- Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and export controls
- Report suspected violations of this Code of Conduct promptly
Prohibited Behaviour
The following behaviours are strictly prohibited and may result in immediate account suspension:
Harassment & Discrimination
We have zero tolerance for harassment, intimidation, hate speech, or discrimination based on:
- Race, ethnicity, nationality, or religion
- Gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation
- Disability or age
- Company size or economic status
Fraudulent Conduct
You may not:
- Misrepresent your identity, business credentials, or product quality
- Manipulate reviews, ratings, or feedback
- Engage in phishing, spoofing, or impersonation
- Use the platform to launder money or facilitate illicit trade
Anti-Competitive Behaviour
Users must not engage in price-fixing, bid rigging, market allocation, or any other conduct that restricts fair competition.
Reporting Violations
If you witness or experience behaviour that violates this Code of Conduct, please report it. We take all reports seriously and treat them confidentially.
- Use the 'Report' button available on any listing, profile, or message thread
- Email our Trust & Safety team at conduct@ubuntuportal.co.ke
- For urgent matters involving fraud or safety, call our support line
- All reports are reviewed within 48 hours
- We have a strict non-retaliation policy — reporting a violation will not negatively affect your account
Enforcement
Ubuntu Portal's Trust & Safety team investigates all reported violations. Depending on the severity and frequency, enforcement actions may include:
- A formal warning issued to the user's account
- Temporary suspension of listing, purchasing, or messaging privileges
- Removal of specific listings, reviews, or content
- Permanent account termination
- Referral to law enforcement authorities where criminal conduct is suspected
Appeals Process
If you believe an enforcement action was taken in error, you may appeal within 14 days of notification. Submit your appeal with supporting evidence to appeals@ubuntuportal.co.ke. Appeals are reviewed by a senior member of our Trust & Safety team who was not involved in the original decision. We aim to resolve all appeals within 10 business days.
Updates to This Code
We will update this Code of Conduct as our community and platform evolve. Major changes will be communicated via email and a notice on the Platform. We encourage all users to review this document periodically. By continuing to use Ubuntu Portal after an update, you accept the revised Code.
